Fertility Optimization

Do you want to grow your family but are you struggling to get pregnant or maintain your pregnancy?

Approximately 16% of Canadian couples struggle with infertility, a value that has doubled since the 1980’s.  Fertility challenges are not exclusive to females; in fact, males are solely responsible for approximately 20%-30% of infertility cases and contribute to 50% of cases overall.  Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive within 12 months in couples who are under 35 years old or within 6 months in couples who are 35 years old or older.  There are numerous potential causes of infertility including physical or structural factors, hormone imbalances, poor egg or sperm quality and in some cases, due to unexplained factors.

Conventional fertility treatments can become extremely costly and complicated and many couples choose to seek integrative care to optimize their outcomes.  The key focus in Naturopathic Medicine is to uncover and address underlying factors that may be preventing a couple from conceiving naturally and to support couples who want to conceive naturally or under the care of a fertility clinic.

Over the last 10 years, Dr. Shelly Ordon, N.D. has been working with couples to optimize their reproductive health and pregnancy outcomes.  By offering a strategic and comprehensive approach to fertility optimization, either on her own or as a compliment to conventional treatments, Dr. Shelly has been able to help couples take an active role in their reproductive journey and successfully start and grow their family.  While some couples wait until they are referred to a fertility clinic, others choose to take an active role in their preconception planning from the start to simply improve their probability of a healthy and successful pregnancy.  Couples do not need to wait for a diagnosis to enhance their fertility outcomes.  In fact, Dr. Shelly recommends that all couples who plan on becoming pregnant start considering how they can optimize their reproductive and overall health, ideally 3-6 months before trying to conceive.
